ARE YOU LIVING IN THE MOMENT?
Do you ever feel like scrapping your life and starting all over again?
Maybe come in a different country and in a different family?
Or maybe come as a popular rockstar with a lot of cash so much that you wipe your butt with dollars.
Don’t lie to me, I know you feel this way too.
So it got me thinking, is it due to societal pressure, peer pressure or self-induced pressure?
Personally, I always feel like I’m running out of time and if I don’t figure out my life right now, I’d end up broke and angry 😂😂😂😂
But please, can we even chill?
Can we actually allow ourselves live in the moment. Can we actually be mindful of the present.
I mean, as much as I don’t want to end up broke and angry I also don’t want to look back and regret that I didn’t allow myself enjoy my youthful days and the amazing moments we have now.
It’d be my greatest regret in life.
I remember when I just finished secondary school, my aunt (married) looked at me and said, “Tomisin, enjoy your youthful days.”
I will never forget the look on her face when she said it. It hit me deep.
Now it’s not like she’s not happily married with kids. But it’s obvious that there are certain things that she can’t do anymore. Marriage and aging doesn’t give room for all of that again.
It just made me realize that we (late teens/ youths) want to move to the next level so bad. So bad that we are literally just ghosting through our present life and got our eyes fixed on what is to come.
It shouldn’t be so.
There are ways you can prepare, plan and work towards your future that wouldn’t exempt you from the present and that is why I’m writing this to you. To remind you my dear friend, to live in the moment.
Enjoy the late night chats.
Enjoy the noodles without egg.
Enjoy the overcrowded house during Christmas holidays.
Enjoy being asked out and vice versa.
Enjoy being able to sleep in late without feeling guilty.
Enjoy not having a child you have to pay school fees for.
Enjoy being able to drink garri and tweet “Living my best life”
Enjoy finding your path.
Enjoy applying for roles.
Enjoy partying with friends.
Enjoy every single moment of your life right now.
A day will come when you’d look back on these moments, and all I want you to feel is happiness and fulfillment.
So tone down on the pressure and have fun.
